Right now I have 245/45/17 all around. I am getting some 255/40/17 tires tomorrow and just wondering if 40 series will look smaller in the rear. Or will it look equal due to the width increasing? I know a 275 would definetly call for the 40 series...

The tires u are getting are fine it is just hard to find the 255/40/17's in a cheaper z tire. I had the 255/45/17's and they looked fine. I did however have a lot of road drift. I have 245/40/18's on my car now (Hankook's) and pulling 1.88 60ft's without so much of the road drift so wider in not necessarily better unless u just want the look.
ya, the road drift sucks. I think you get that mostly from making your fronts fatty's. It is mainly for looks anyway so I guess I can deal with a litlle road drift.

the 245 45's up front will have a tire sidewall height of 4 3/8'' while 255 40's in the rear will have a sidewall height of 4''. the overall tire diameter will be 3/4'' smaller with the 255 40's. I think it will noticable.

Thanks for the reply! 3/8"....hmmm that might be a bit noticable. Does anyone know If 255/40's will fit all around? Meaning the front mostly. I rub very little with the 245/45's up front right now. I had 245/40's up front before and had no issues.

I'm sure it is the width that caused it to rub and not the diameter. So, yes, you will probably get some rubbing with the 255 up front if you did with the 245.

Well when I first bought the rims it had 245/40 on it with no rubbing. Changed them to 245/45's and now just a slight rubbing on bumps.

What about some 235/45 up front with the 255/40 rear...how would that work out?

Is this car lowered? is this why you are having these problems? None of the tires you have spoken about should have been a problem. Anyway, The 235 is 9 1/4'' wide with an overall diameter of 25 1/4'' and will fit with no problem. The 255 is 10'' wide and I would think it would fit easily if the car is not way low or the rim doesn't have some extreme offset. The 255 has an overall height of 25''

Yes the car is lowered 2". I'm just trying to find a nice looking combo. I like the look of the tire bulge and like them fat. But dont want rubbing issues.
I think the 235/45 and 255/40 will look good.

I forgot to ask where they rub. The reason is if they rub on a plastic inner fender, it can be modified. If it rubs on the suspension, a wheel spacer can be used to move the tire out the desired amount. And if it hits on the lip of the fenderwell on the outside of the tire, the inner lip can be rolled. If you have never heard of this I don't suggest trying it at home. Just some options. I'm sure something can be done. It is surprizing that you would have trouble getting a 255 under the car.

I haven't put the 255's on yet so not sure what there goin to do. I was rubbing with my 245/45/17's up front on big bumps. It doesn't even show on the tread. So I'm not sure where its rubbing. Spacers would not be a good idea up front cause they already sit flush with the fender lip.

I thought you were looking for 255 in the rear. 245 on a lowered car is probably the best you are going to do in front.
