Default Wheel center cap removal-S197

The wheel center caps are held on with plastic looking "feet" backed up with a steel snap ring.
Do you have to remove the snap ring to remove and install the caps? Can they just be popped out and popped in with the ring in place? It's a real pain to get the snap ring back in there once the cap is on the wheel, and I don't want to break anything.
Thanks.

Frank

I swapped out my AFS Snakes for Ponys. They pop out and pop back in. Metal ring stays in place. Biggest pain was just taking each wheel off and back on again. NO WAY of doing it from the outside. I believe they are 2.75 diameter.

I did the same thing. Took the wheel off and pushed them out from the back. They popped out and the new ones popped right in.

Lol, you took the ring off for removal. But yeah, these guys are right they just pop out. I attempted to take mine off w/o wheel removal and flaked off a small piece of chrome on the cap.

Thanks, guys.
I removed one by taking the snap ring out. But getting it back in place when the cap was on the wheel was a pain. I just didn't want to break anything.
