Default Tire sizes for the 18's

So I am going to buy my tires for my 18x9 Saleens probably tomorrow and I still havn't decided what tire size to buy. I want it to look good but I don't want to get em too heavy. I looked through different brands and I am prolly going with Yokohama, but does anybody have suggestions on tire size to keep the diameter close to stock? I did just lower the car and I don't want to have rubbing issues. Thanks guys!

General rule of thumb is for every 1" you increase your rim size:
--you should increase the width by 10mm
--you should decrease the aspect ratio by 10 pts.
For a 2001 V6 conv. the tires should be 205/65-R15 or 225/55-R16. Tirerack.com and Toyo.com recommend 245/40-R18 or 235/40-R18 for a 9" wide rim, which makes sense if you work from the 16" tire size.

The math:
Stock: 205*.65 = 133.25mm (5.25") sidewall
15+2*5.25 = 25.5" wheel diameter

225*.55 = 123.75mm (4.87") sidewall
16+2*4.87 = 25.7" diameter

Plus: 245*.4 = 98mm (3.85")
18+2*3.85 = 25.7" diameter

235*.4 = 94mm (3.70")
18+2*3.70 = 25.4" diameter

Interesting 235? that seems quite small compared to what other people in the shops have recommended...they said go with 255, 265, or 275/35/18...guess thats prolly too wide for my 6er tho..how bout going with 235/40 in the front and a 245/40 in the back?? Good answer btw thanks!

Actually I found this really cool thing online that shows tire size from stock to aftermarket....

Tire size calculator

both 265/35 and 235/40 equal stock diameter...I just hope 235 will be wide enough for the rim cuz I have seen cars that look tacky because the tire isn't wide enough for the rim..

edit: I just checked using this program and 245/40/18 will be the perfect size to keep my speedometer accurate..

I have 245's on my 8 inch wide GT rims. I was recommended 235's for them, but I got them for free, so I wasn't complaining. The 245's fit fine on them, and I'm sure they'll work fine on a 9" wide rim.

If they fit on the 8 inch rim fine how do they fit on a 9 inch rim without the rim coming out farther than the tire..sorry I am no tire/rim expert

Eh, either am I. I thought you were asking about putting 245's on all four. I rephrase myself. The 245's were bigger than the recommended width for my rims, but they fit okay and you can't see any sort of bulging over. They told me 245's were the perfect fit for 17x9's when I was thinking about cobra rims.

You should be able to handle 245-40s
What ever size you chose , keep all 4 the same , so you can rotate them.
I am running 245-40-18 s on 8.5 in the front and 315-35-18s on 10.5 in the back, But mine is a 07 GT. so we are different.

What exactly does that have to do with anything? I'm running 245's in the rear and 275s in the back, and when my nittos come in i'll be running 315s in the rear.
