Default Dry rotting of tires? 1969 Mustang

My '69 Mustang had new tires put on last around 1993. It spent a little over the last ten years idle in various drive ways until I got back to working on it again in the past couple years. I've noticed cracks all around the side walls of all four tires. Is this dry rot? Is it safe to drive on these tires anymore?

yep sounds like dry rot to me. depending on how severe they are is to whether you should drive on them. run over to the tire shop and have somebody look at them if you aren't sure.

the sun and weather can dry rot and thats what it sounds like .Tires are usually about year old when you get them depending on the brand. Probably not safe to drive on anymore ,or at least not take a chance on wrecking your car.

Yep, it was dry rot. When the wheels came off the car you could really see how bad they were, the treads were separating. I decided to buy new wheels while I was getting all new tires. I got some 15" Torq Thrust II's and BF Goodrich Radial TA's. Its amazing what a big difference it made, the Mustang rides and drives so much better.
