Default Help with 17" rims and tires

Hey what's up. I have a 97 v6 stang that is stock except for a CAI and dual exhaust. I am going to purchase 17x9 rims with 275/45/17 tires for the front and 17x10.5 rims with 315/35/17 tires for the rear. I will also be lowering the car 1.5 inches. Can anyone tell me if I would have any sort of clearance problems with the rims and tires for the rear or even the front? Being the car is stock would I experience any sort of power loss with 315 tires on the back? Any advice would be great. Thanks.

Those will fit under your car with the drop. Your gas mileage and power loss will be huge with the rotational mass not to mention the firmer ride with the drop......

I hate to break it to you, but those are some wide rims for a stock V6. You will lose power simply because of the weight, and the amount of rotational mass those rims add. I have 17x8 summer wheels, and I can feel a slight power decrease then my stock 15x7's. As for fitting, I don't think you'll have a problem with the 275's, 315's may be pushing it however. I'm not an expert though. I have 245's all around.

They will fit fine...however those wide rims/tires in the rear may very likely hit your aftermarket exhaust...you may have to change the placement of the exhaust or get rear wheel spacers..

The wheels and tires will fit under a 97. However, in order to do so, you will need at least 7 3/8'' of backspacing. Any less than that and your tire (315=12 1/2'' wide) will hit the upper control arm. You can try to buy rims with 7 3/8'' back spacing or make up that difference with a wheel spacer. When moving the wheel out enough for the tire to clear the control arm, it is going to make the tire sit flush with the top lip of the fender. This means that the tire is no longer sitting inside the fender but under it. When lowered, that leaves maybe an inch of clearance between the tire and the fender. Passengers, bumps, cornering????? I did it, I know.
