I am looking at the Nitto 555R or the Sumitomo HTR Z. I will be ordering the 315/35-17. What are the pros and cons to each tire? I'm thinking I'll go with the Sumitomo's because of the tread life, but do these tires perform well?

I don't know much about either, I have just heard that the Nitto was a great tire. I have decided to buy them after I finally get my wheels!! Anyone else have more experience??

I have the HTR IIs on my 96GT. I'm running 18x10 and 18x9 rims. Out back I have 285/35s and in front I have 265/35s. They are absolutely perfect in the summer. I love the look of the aggressive tread pattern and they corner very well. Wet traction is actually not that bad. I've pushed them a few times in a big empty parking lot just to see their limits and they really do grab well. Now, they are a summer only tire but I have been caught a few times with them in very light snow and very cold temps. The tires stay really hard in the cold as summer only tires will do but they got me home. They will last longer than Nittos if tire life is an issue for you.
They are priced right and if you go that route you will be happy with them. That all being said, Nittos are great for hooking up as well but I have no experience with them.
Just my .02...

i liked my sumitomo's. they worked decently at the track, great on the street, and were pretty good in the rain and snow. definitely a versatile tire. i actually just bought by second set last week.
dont know too much about nittos though.

I've had both tires in a 315/35/17 and the Nittos grab better, but the summo's are a lot cheaper. I have M/T ET street radials for the track.
I can get a 4th gear chirp out of the Summo's.

I am fixing to have a set of Nitto 555 put on my 07 Shelby razor rims, to try something Shelby asked me to do because of an issue I am having with the rims. I read the reviews on a couple of different sites and everyone seems to be really happy with the grip. Every thing I see about the treed life seems to be descent. Some people say great others said not so good. I think with most well made tires just really depends on where and how you are driving them.
