I have heard good things about the nitto 555 and the 555R. The However the 555R will not last very long. I ended up buying the sumitomo htr z. I haven't been able to drive with them yet but I have heard good things. They get good wear and traction in both wet/dry. I also think the tread looks pretty sweet on the sumitomo's

Either Nittos or Sumitomos. I have the Sumi HTRZ II's and love the aggressive (functional) tread pattern. They've performed extremely well in the time that I've had them.

I run Nitto 555s in back and Sumitomo HTRZs in front. I really like both tires.
Tires have more impact on vehiclae performance that just about anything else. Any rally driver will tell you how important tire selection is. You have to pick exactly the right tire for the job.
Since you havn't mentioned what that job might be, it's impossible to make an intelligent recommendation.
Commuting, drag racing, road racing, snow and rain, dirt roads? What's more important to you - cornering traction, straight line traction, longevity, low noise?
Go to the Tire Rack web site. That have a tire selction procedure that should guide you in the right direction.
