Default Anyone tried painting their own rims?

Just curious if this would be fairly easy to do? Ive got a torch red pony with black leather interior and eventually black stripes. I was thinking about buying a nice set of black bullet rims, then thought, how hard could it be to just paint the factory rims. Anyone out there ever try this? If so, any tips?

I have a friend that power coated a section of his fanblades black and did a great job. no chipping or wear. he power coated the center of the blades only. Looks pretty cool, kind of like the new 08 fanblades.

I don't think it would be hard it you took your time. I think duplicolor makes special paint for wheels. I would take them off the car to avoid overspray though.

yea deffinetly take them off the car before painting. if your doing it yourself you need to have some kind of texture on the rim for the paint to hold onto. personially i would just get them professionally done so you have a warrenty of some sort if it chips/crack or whatever.

poweder coating wheels usually cost around 50 or less a wheel and the finish is nice, paint if not done right chips with small rocks. i painted some track wheels black and i gave it like 10 coats and still any little bang or scratch and i could see through the paint.

Powder coating would last you longer than paint.

But it's very bad for aluminum alloy rims to be baked at 375*

Never thought of that. Better stick to painting them then. Still looks good.

I had just read that last week. Would never have occurred to me either.
