Default Tire/Rim question

Whats the widest tire you can put on a factory 18" rim?

I would like to have a wider tire on the back without changing rims. I like the factory wheels.

If it's a stock width 18" rim I think the consensus is a 255. I know others in the past have put 275s on the rear but thought they looked a bit out of place.

Yeah I don't want it to look stupid. I currently have 235/50ZR18's

Just want some more width back there, but if its only going to be minimal and not very noticeable then I will just stick with what I have.

If you're needing tires I would still step up to the 255s. For the life of me I never understood why the new Stangs came with such narrow rubber. In past models the 17 inch stockers were always 245/45's.

I know what you're talking about for the desire of bigger meats. Just last year I went from 245/50 16s all around on my 96Gt to 285/35 18's and 265/35 18's in front. It looks killer.

I have the stock 18" Fanblades on my 06 and I think they're an 8.5 inch width. I'll definately be going the 255 route when the need arises.

If you check out some of the tire retailer's web sites, you'll find the maximum recommended size is a 255.
