Default Chrome Verses Polished

I niticed that most are choosing Chrome, Powder coated or Painted over the Polished wheels. I have always know it to be once a Chrome or other wheel is chipped the damage is done, it's all down hill from there. With a polished wheel all the needs to be done is to repolish it and it's good as new again. Is there something that I don't know about the Chrome wheels today?

If you get some curb rash or any scratches or chips, use a clear lacquer, like clear nail polish to reseal the chrome finish. If you don't, moisture could get underneath the chrome and cause the overall finish to deteriorate. Once you damage a chrome wheel, you can't get it back to the original finish without re-chroming or replacing it. Just be careful when you're parking and you can keep them in top shape for years.

I really like chrome wheels but I've always been concerned about scratches and nicks that could occur when you take them in to have them balanced and rotated. I don't have chrome wheels now but I've really been thinking about buying a set when it comes time for new tires.

After 18 years of working in the tire industry, I will never own a set of chrome wheels. All the pitting that occurs along the flange where the tire seals is crap. Constant rim leaks, and once it starts its over with.

I have a set of chrome wheels on my Saleen and never once had an issue with them. But I do not drive it everyday either do they do not see the normal wear and tear as probably others do.

I to have never owned chrome wheels but I did not know that pitting could be a problem. Lets hear it from someone that has owned chrome wheels for awhile and uses their car as a daily driver. I've been thinking about buying chrome wheels but now I'm not sure.

I see chrome wheels on daily drivers everyday. Even factory chrome. They don't mix well with Chicago winters thats for sure.

you have to take care of the chrome alot more than painted wheels. if you stay on top of them and dont let dirt stay on them for a long period of time and brake dust for that matter they will look great for years. but if you dont take care of them they will turn to crap fast.
