Default Going From 17 to 18 inch Wheels

I'm thinking about going from 17 to 18 inch wheels on a 06 Mustang GT because there seems to be more of a selection with 18 inch. I think I remember someone telling me at one time that I'd have to have a wheel stop installed if I do this. Does anyone know if this is right and what is a wheel stop?
