Default Slicks Or No Slicks? Need Input.

I have a 1993 Mustang Gt 5 Speed with a 1992 Motor. My question is with the Mods I have witch I will list, should I run a set of slicks at the track? Of course it will help my times but I don't want to dump it at 5000 RPM and twist or snap something. What would be a safe launch RPM for a stock bottom end Fox? I have BBK Short Headers,BBK CAI,Full Exhaust (No Cats),FR 3.73's and just the usual tweaks. The last time I went I was pulling in the 14.2 area so I should be able to hit into the 13's no problem but want to do it in the safest way. Any input would be graet. Thanks Guys

Well if you have been having trouble hooking up then i would go ahead and look into slicks along with some suspension work. Check out Nitto, Mickey T's, BF G's, etc.

yes slicks will your improve your e.t. = Good

now for the bad... they will put considerable stress on your basic stock drivetrain primarily your transmission
as I'm sure you are aware the T5 is a weak unit.....running slicks speed up the destruction

i would recommend a drag radial or a ET street

also upper and lower control arms...subframe connectors....adjustable struts & shocks
and air bag.....

i don't recommend 5000 rpm launches

you will break something....see comment about T5

there is no set rule on rpm's .....the object of the game is to get the car off the line without bogging the motor or excessive tire spin

this is dictated by what the car likes .....track conditions and driver skills

the more seat time you have will help ....

practice ....practice ......practice

At this point you don't need actual slicks, like Reg said it'd be better to go with some drag radials or some ET Streets. They're less harsh on the drivetrain.
Make sure all your rear end parts are in good shape, all the contact/mounting points are in good shape, and then if everything's ok, just be smart. I knew a guy who launched at 5000 and (after making sure the rear could take it) it made a huge difference but it'll come down to driver skill and track conditions. If you want to clear the hurdle into the 13's, get some better suspension parts like lower control arms, better springs, adjustable shocks, and you'll get there.

I feel your pain my friend. My mods are listed in my sig and the times i ran 2 weeks ago. I was running BFG D/R's at 12 psi. I was over powering the car and kept spinning my tires of the line. Yet i was still able to run in the 13 realm. LIke they said....practice. O and who told you to launch at 5k? Silly wabbit! I launch around 2100-2400 rpms. Slip the clutch until you feel the tires start to move then you can dump it.

Go with a set of Street ETs. We put a set on a buddy of mines 240sx and he finally stop busting his tires when he got boost. Went from 13s to high 11s and low 12s
