My current tires are stock Pirelli Pzero's. They are size 235/55-17. I know the width (235) matters, but how much does the sidewall (55) matter? Because I've seen Nittos size 235/45-17 and I'm not sure if they will fit right. What will the differences be if I change the sidewall from 55 to 45 or 40? Thanks in advance guys.

ok tire number brake down. 235 = tire width 55 = aspec ratio(should be close to 55% the width of the 235) then ofcourse r17 = 17" rim. I would recomend staying with the 55 aspec ratio unless you like fender gap. Instead of having a 3 inch gap between your tires to the fender it will be a 4 inch gap. I would want to put lowering springs on it if i was gonna put lower profile tires on it. Factory ride height sucks any ways.
The lower the mid number, like a 55 to a 35, the lower the profile of the tire is.
Even if you lower your stang with low profile, the S197's don't look as good. I would look at getting nothing less than 18" rims with low profile tires and lowered. Or stick to stock rims and stock size tires.
