Default Best road racing tires for 275/40

I bought a set of 10th anniversary '03 cobra wheels (17x9) as track wheels for road racing and autocross. I'm thinking that 275/40/17's all around will be better vs 245's in the front. I read that they will fit with most tires without rubbing, but i want to install coil-overs in the future. How much of a drop can you go without rubbing? Also which tires would be best for road racing and autocross, still be (barely) street legal (i don't have a trailer), and have the stiffest sidewalls?

I have heard some great things about Nittos. But i have yet to test them personally.

I've mainly been looking at tirerack.com, and they don't have nitto's for some reason(or Falkens for that matter). I've bought tires from them in the past, and their service was ridiculously awesome, so I'm going to stick with them. I bought my car with a set of NT555's on it that i really didn't care for, so I'm slightly biased against them.
