I was searching for some info for my brother when i came over this website.
i think its something every owner should know, most importantly those of us whos makeing our cars go faster, and turning off limiters and such, like tire speed rateing.
tires are a verry important part of the car, and a impotant saftey feature.
we all know how to check pressure but this goes above and beyond
Tire Safety, Brochure (DOT HS 809 361 October 2001)
you should also know how old your tires are, there was a thread a while back with a video. if you go to buy tires, check to make sure they are 3 years or newer.
the code is in an oval
if theres a 3 digit code at the end of the DOT code, it was in the 90's
example
A B C
a and b first number of the week ( 52 total ) and C year
056 would be the 5th week of 1996 that tire was made
or 519 51st week of 1999
or 162 16th week 1992
and 4 numbers means 2000+
A B C D
ab week cd year
2602 26th week 2002
3107 31st week 2007
1601 16th week 2001
sears and walkmart have been caught selling 7 8 and 9 year old tires off the shelf as new! heads up!
