Question 275 Tire on a 17x8 Rim

Hey guys, as you all know money doesn't grow on trees, especially in these times so instead of getting 315's and some deep dishes I was wondering if its possible to go with a 275/40/R17 on the 17x8 stock rim? Is anyone running this out back and if you are I'd really appreciate it if ya'll posted up some pictures. I'm thinking about the Nitto 555 Drag Radials.

I'm running 275 40 R17 on my stock 17 x 8 bullitt wheels no problem. you shouldn't have problem running them either.

Default big tires

i know that extra money is a thing of the past, but i just put deep dish bullitts and 315s on and the look from behind is worth waiting for.the good news is the 275s will also look good too.

Well, there you have it; maybe yes; maybe no...

If you'd just like the "look" while you're collecting funds for what you really want, the least expensive way is to install spacers (the kind with built-in lug bolts).

I bought 17x9 Bullitts anticipating getting 275's in the future. But I still have 245's to wear out, so I got some 40mm (1 1/2") spacer/ adapters on eBay for about $50. They look pretty darn bold. Just don't forget to re-torque periodically.

The only thing I will add to this discussion is that a 275 40 17 will have essentially the same contact patch as a 255 40 17 on a 17x8 rim. The only reason I have a 275 40 on a 17x8 rim is because they are drag radials as well so I get the benefit of the compound (I use them as my track tires) but if you were only going to run a normal street tire you aren't going to gain anything and could save some additional money on the tire size as well.

I'm running Kuhmo Ecsta ASX 275 40 R 17 all the way around, and the Bullitt's are 3/4 of an inch lower than a stock GT and have no clearance issues, plus not a bad tire for the price.
