Default Fox Body Max Front Rim Width

I have seen Stangs featured with 17" diameter 10" width rims and maybe 8.5" width rims front. what is keeping them from running 10" width rims on the front without altering the fenders. i know that on the rear they normally massage the inner wheel well. Does going with a coil over shock combo in the front help the rim width issue?
Thanks.

to be honest that wil help a lil doing the coil over but the rims hit the control arm and as well the inner fender on the back side. I have had 17x9 inch rims on the front of a 89 and it rubbed if i turned the wheel tight...any larger and you will loose all turning radius

The wheels and/or tires will contact even the tubular A arms, you can go only so wide on these cars.

i haven't verified this but i read somewhere that Ford changed the fender and inner wheel liner on the front of mustangs for 1991-1993. so a swap might help you as far as the rub you have is concerned on your 89. but again i haven't found info on what the change entailed as yet they just barley mention it on the mustanggt.org website.

Found it in The Official Mustang 5.0 book, page 88. Ford changed the inner fender liner for 1991-1993. That might help on a inner fender rub on 8-9" wide rims but it will not help me put 10" wide under it.
