Default Figuring out wheel size?

Okay so this is a stupid question, but when It comes to some stuff I am a moron.

I'm trying to buy a new set of rims for my Mustang, but I don't know the specifications so I can order them.

I have 17" tires, so I'm guessing that makes my wheels 17s?

now I need to find the width.

So how do I figure out if It's a

17 X 7

17 X 8

ect?

I looked inside the wheel and all I saw was 7GM stamped on the inside.

Thanks for your help

What tire size are you running? You have to measure the rim width with the tire off.

or just list the tire size you are running. 245 30 17 is about the smallest tire you can put on a 17x8 and 255 30 is about the smallest you can put on a 17x9. also, what do your rims look like? eww why do you have gm rims on a mustang? though i think that gm 7 might denote the width. we really do need the tire size to know though.
