Default 20" tire sizes for 1999-2004 Mustangs?

Hi everyone. I just ordered a new set of 20x9 front, and 20x10.5 rear bullitt rims for my '01 GT and now I'm looking for tires. The recommended tire sizes for the rims are 245/30/20 front, and 295/25/20 rear, but I'm wandering if other sizes will work cuz the 295/25's are expensive as hell. I've shopped around a bit, and found that 285/30/20's are a lot less expensive, but they are nearly 1" taller, and the rear wheels are too wide to use anything smaller.
First of all, I'm wandering if the taller 285/30's will even fit on the back as the car has been lowered 2" from stock, I'm also wandering if the 1" diameter difference between front and rear tires will cause any problems with ABS or traction controll. If the diameter issue is a problem, I could get 245/35's for the front to match the diameter of the 285/30's out back, but once again I'm not sure if they will fit.
If anyone knows anything about this, please let me know. Thanks.

Is your 'stang lowered at all? Do you know what the width and offset of your wheels are? That would help me determine if the 245/35/20's will work for me. Thanks for the quick replies guys.
BTW, you can get 245/30/20's on ebay dirt cheap check out the seller "no ugly tires".

I bought the car as is and I don't think it's lowered cuz the suspension feels hard, my rims width are 9.65 and they rub then I turn but a little bit I don't know if it used to rub more cuz the plastics inside are like open and about my offeset I don't know, so ebay has cheaper tires than $100 including shipping? I don't think so I need 2 new rear tires but I'm gonna sold my car like that...

Thanks fot the input. From what I can see in your pics, I'd say yours is still ridin' at stock hight (nice lookin' ride btw), so If your front tires are rubbing at all, then the 245/35/20's probably won't work at all on my 2" lowered 'stang. So that just leaves me to find out if I can still use the 285/30/20's on 10.5's on the back.
Does anyone know if they will (A) fit, and (B) will the 1" diameter difference from front to rear cause problems with ABS or traction controll? Thanks if anyone can help.
BTW, I don't know how much shipping would cost to you, but those 245/30/20's I found on ebay were $309 + shipping for a set of four tires with 400/AA/A ratings, but they don't offer as good of a price on pairs.

Thanks, the best thing you can do to make sure is to go to a tire shop and they will tell you I went to a lot of them when my dad was looking for wheels for his avalanche that's the best advice I can give you...

Can you tell where your front tires are rubbing? The only matched set of tires I could get were 245/35/20's front, and 275/30/20's rear. The tire dealer said they should fit 99-04 stangs, but he couldn't tell me if they would work on a lowered car. It would be real helpful to know exactly where your tires are rubbing, (pics would be great if possible) as I wouldn't mind doing minor mods like rolling the fender lips or modifying/removing the inner fender liners to get the tires to fit.
Thanks for any info.

Default Teshy, what are you running?

Teshy, do you know what size tires and wheels you're running? Any issues at all? Any info like tire size, wheel width and offset would be apreciated. Thanks.

Well, I decided to take a chance and mounted up one of the fronts with a 245/35/20, and to my amazment, it just barely clears everything and doesn't even rub in a sharp turn. I suppose Big Daddy's Stang must be rubbing due to the offset, or maybe it's the extra .65" wheel width. I still need to check the rears, but it seems that the fronts are a non issue even with a 2" drop. I'll have to pickup a car load of fat chicks to see how the tires clear with some weight in the car.

So, yesterday I went and looked at my tires (all four) and my front ones are 245 35 20 and the back are 245 35 20 and when I called to price them nobody had them...they all said they had to order the the 245 35 20's and it would take anywhere from 2 to 7 days to get them in ....and then one place said for the back ones it would cost $417 a tire...the cheapest I found was $110 a tire and all 4 for $440...Just thought I would share that with you guys...
