I want to run a 275/40 tire. I have a 1994 mustang gt. Do you think I could run 17 by 10.5 with a 27mm offset and 6.83" backspacing? Would it make since to run a 245 or 255 in the front with a little bit smaller width rim? Help me out.
im confused
but here we go... you can run that 17x10.5in rim w/o a problem in the back. But a 275/40 is too small of a tire to run on that rim. If you want to run the 275 up front it will rub for sure. hope the your answer is somewhere in there

I'm running a 295/35 on an 18x10, and it's a perfect fit. So on a 17x10.5 you could probably get away with a 295. But I run an 18x9 on the front with a 265/35. I rub a little with the wheel turned all the way, but I've also installed two of those clips that limit how far the rack can turn on each side. If you're wanting to run 17x10.5, go with a 295 or 315, and I'd run a 17x9 on the front with a 255 or 265. But you cannot rotate them. So if it's a daily driver you may want to rethink the 17x10.5 idea. I say that because I've seen people run 17x9's with 275's all the way around. I attached a pic of mine so you can see what 18x9's with 265/35's on the front, and 18x10's with 295/35's look like. Just to give you a reference to wether you want to go bigger, smaller, or the same. Good luck!

I have 305 35 17 in the back on a 17x10 rim and 295 40 17 on the front with a 17x9 rim and the fronts do scrub just a little at full lock but not enough to matter hope this helps. these actually will touch the front edge of the frontfender during a turn if you hit a bump while turning but again it hasn't been a real issue at all.
Could I run a 285 on a 10.5"? If not what would happened if i ran two different sized side walls like a 35 and a 40? I'm having trouble finding a good autocross tire with 255/40 in the front and 295/40 in the back...

I had the same problem. That's why I went with a 295 and 265. Kumho MX's were the only ones that got me close to what I wanted without spending $1500+ just on tires. As it was, it still cost almost a grand. But I love Kumhos, they have great quality and the MX's are the best tires Kumho sells for autocross without going with the race tires.
