Whatever brand tire you have, or are going to buy, will have a website. On their website they will have a tutorial decoding all of the number and letters that are on a side of a tire. If you can't find any information on the website of the particular company, go to BF Goodrich. They have an excellent tutorial, and their tires are awesome too!

this should help you

Tire Safety, Brochure (DOT HS 809 361 October 2001)

if you mean speed rateings remember, its rated at 1 hour under load ( as in a rateing of t as in my tire 118 mph ) will be able to go 120...130 for short blasts. but after 118 MPH for an hour or more the tire will start to break down.

this can save you money not buying a tire rated for 140... when 1 you dont go that fast and 2 you really dont need it

I don't know Keith, I've heard it through the grape vine that you've been trying to hit that mark in that V-6. Is that true, and will it go that fast? If so you better upgrade your tires, I'll lend you the tires, on the BOSS they're rated for over 200 mph. and they're 17" the wheels were custom made to look stock. I'm just busting your chops, I saw you on here so I had to say hello. Have a good day, I have to go cut my lawn. After all the rain we've been having, I finally got a break good thing too. My lawn has to be, a foot tall now I'll have to go over it at least three times, Mike. SCT Tuner.

READING A SIDEWALL | Toyo Tires

Go there. They give all the information on all side markings. The 420 AA A you were talking about is the treadwear, traction, temperature ratings. (420 is a good tread-life, 200 is street tire, 500 is an all season; AA traction is the best; A temperature is the best, meaning it can dissipate heat faster)
