Default Widest Tire on Stock 18x8.5" Wheels

I'm sure this has been answered somewhere but I couldn't find it. Can anyone tell me the widest tire I can put on the stock wheel? I'd like to go 275s but I think 295x40x18s are the perfest match with stock tires up front as far as not having to recal the speedo. To put a wider tire are spacers required? Thanks.

Widest recommended size is 255/45/18..... each manufacture will list the rim widths for each sizes of tire that they make. 275/40/18 the narrowest recommend rim is 9". it'll fit but will bulge a bit from what I've read... been having the same delimit myself for a month.. Not sure what I'm gonna do... Nitto 275's or GY Eagle F1 255..???

+1... you can cram more tire on there but the sidewall may be compromised.

went to Discount Tire today and looked for some Nittos. THey told me the biggest you can put on a 18 is 295's. But still Stlwagon has a point. I am going to go with 275/45/18 get em put in the rear tomorrow. WIth Dougs new tune its really opened up my car a lot I need much better traction and I think these will do it for me. got some UCA and LCA comin too thanks stlwagon.

Thanks, 255s what is that about an inch wider than stock? And of course BF Goodrich doesn't make the G-Force tires in 255x45x18. Didn't really want to have to buy 4 new matching tires. I'd rather buy 2 new wheels for the rear and then go 295s or 275s. I assume 295s on a 9in rim will fit under the well fine.

Does anyone know the widest 18" tire that you can put under the rear well without having to make more mods/spacers?

There are quite a few running 295s and even a few with 305s and 325s but I'm not sure what modifications, if any were required.

I have 295's, no mods

When I need new rears I am going to have the rear wheels widened a inch and I am going to go with some 315's. I have already measured everything and they will fit with no mods to the car.

Stuffing a larger tire on the same size rim and therefore pinching the sidewall may loose you traction. The contact patch is not the only thing that factors into a tires performance. The sidewall performance is very important. If you put them in a posistion where they are not in their operating range you could make your situation worse opposed to better.

The sidewall need to be able to flex when a load is aplied to the tire. If all the flex has been used up by pinching it on a narrow rim there will be no flex left to aid traction.

Most Nitto's I've seen were 255's

Post a few pix. Also that is one the stock rims right? I was thinking about having my rears widened a bit to fit more tire on the rear. If 275's fit then I may not have to widen them. I love my 'blades because most people don't have them or hate them.

Yeah, I'm still looking for a good place to actually buy a new set of rims/tires from. I'm looking for a set of bullit replica's, 18's. Nice and fat in the rear.
But I can't break the bank on them. would like to keep the set of rims/tires < $1300 if possible.

rolling on stock 2005 17's now w/ 235/55's. I leave WAY too much rubber at every stop light. LOL

I'd appreciate suggestions...

Could somebody post the specs on the wheels that will fit the 05-07s? including correct offset and lug spacing?

thnx,
Mo

5 lug, 45mm offset. try www.americanmuscle.com for rims and www.discounttires.com (free shipping) for tires. I have 18x9 mach 1 replicas from AFSwheels.com(bought on ebay) and 255/45/18's nitto 555 from discounttires.com. Love this size because it keeps the stock tire height so I didnt need to lower to make it look right. If I was going to lower I would have gotten 17x9's because 18's are alot of wheel to turn.

thanks for the links. I checked out americanmuscle.com and found the bullits I was interested in. Good prices too. However, while we're on the topic...

I'm considering a staggered fit, 18x9's with 255/45s front and 18x10s in with 275/40's rear. However, I noticed the offset for the 18x9s was listed as 34mm, while the 18x10's was 45mm.

These should all fit though, eh? The 11mm backspacing increase of the 18x10's should keep their centers in-line with the 18x9's in the front, right? But then doesn't that mean the 34mm are going to be recessed inside the wheelwell more than they should be?

Thanks for the help!
Mo

This should help out, imho this is the best calculator because it gives you the best visuals. Its what I used.

http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp

Also double check to make sure they dont have the 45mm's
