Default A little help with getting new tires for my 1989 Mustang GT

Well heres the story. Friend of mine buys a 93 from from some guy in Texas. The guy has a set of ponys with new tires on at the time. My friends drives the car from Texas to here in Jersey. He offered to sell me the tires and rims because he got himself a new set of rims.
So heres the part i was hoping someone could enlighten me on. He brings the tires over for me to take a look at. the 2 back tires are fine.but on both front tires from the inside sidewall to about 3 inches inward, the treads are worn to hell, but the rest of the tire looks new. He has no idea what caused it. Either way i took the set because he sold em to me for less then the new ponies would have cost me. But now i need new tires.
So i got to thinking. The back tires are 245/50's and the worn out front tires are 245/45's. Im wondering if the simple issue was that the 245s on the front were too wide? I remember reading in some mustang magazine that they made some sorta change to the front hubs from 91 and up. And his stang is a 93. SO could it be that the tires were rubbing during the whole trip up here?
Either way, im sticking with 245's for the rear, but i was going to ask what a good recommendation would be for the front of my 89? Would a set of 245/45s be ok for my year? Or should i go with something a little smaller like a 235 or 225? If anyone has any insight for me, please lemme know. Thanks!

how much did you pay? I've been trying to get rid of a set with basically brand new rubber on them for 3 bills.

this souinds like your buddy bought a car that might have been wrecked or at very least the front-end alignment is way out of adjustment. i would tell him to take it to a shop & let them check the alignment before he ruins another set of tires & that would also answer your question about your tires. but that size shuold be fine to run on any fox body w/good alignment. i hope this info helps, good luck.

The tire size is a bit wide, but that is not what is causing the tread to wear like that. At worse they are going to rub when at wheel lock.

Its definately an alignment issue with the car. As for the 91+ change, it was in the fenders and inner fenders for more clearance for the 16" Wheels and Tires.

Ah , man i wish i could afford it atm. Im ordering my tires from discounttiredirect.com because i applied for their card and got approved , so i can take a while to pay off the new tires. I just dumped a grand into the car fixing things that needed to be replaced to keep the car running good, and i dont make alot of cash lol. If i had the cash right this moment, id gladly take those ponies off your hands. The ones i got from my friend were supposed to be 350,and i paid him 175 already. But since the tires are shot he settleled for the 175$. I do wish the ponies i got from him were in better shape, and the fact that you said yours are brandy new, makes me wish i woulda gotten on this forum sooner.
