Usually I wouldn't be interested in this knida thing but I have a buddy who can get them really cheap. I dont know the year they came off of only that they are from the same body style as mine. Would this be a good idea or a bad idea?

I think they are 17x9's, would the extra tire width have any effect?
What would tires for the wheels cost?

A little heavier, but the diameter is good. -Man, tires vary from month to month - but I'd reckon you'd pay 20-50 dollars more per tire . .

I put Kumho Ecsta 711's on my GT take-offs. All 4, to include mount & balance and tire warranty were about $450 from Discount Tire. There were some less expensive, about $350, but I've never had probs with the Kumho. The prices can go up past $1k depending on what you want.
Oh! Forgot! your cornering speeds will increase, as will your traction, but re: acceleration - mixed bag

I get my tires from a little independent shop here in town cause we are friends with the owners (no discounts though...grr). I won't get anything to exotic, just some fairly generic tires, preferablly Toyos.

My 0-60 was almost 2 seconds faster with the stock 15's.
yeah, it shouldn't be that dramatic for Tex, with the 3.27 gears & considerably more torque .. .
He'd probably lose 0.75 secs over the OEM 16s.
When I stepped up to the 17x8s I couldn't chirp the tires on the 2nd & third shift anymore.

I bet with the detroit true-trac and motor mods it will be evil out of the hole!
Maybe I can go low profile to knock off some of the weight?
