nope, the safest that will fit on a 17x9 is 275s; depending on the tire

tirerack.com You usually cant beat thier price with shipping and everything, unless you find a deal on ebay.

You sure reivax? I didnt think the wheel wells changed much from your body style to mine. I have 295's. no problems at all. I would even consider 305's next time.

:edit: I just caught that you said 17x9 not 17x10. Yep, I agree then. 275 is the widest I would recommend, although I think you could probably fit 285's on it.

on a 17x9 rim? nope, 275 is the max for most tires, ive heard some nittos are smaller, so you might be able to get away 295, but thats really pushing it. what size rim do you have?

oh, and did i mention it already? i just bought some tires for my car, they should be in on friday

My back rim is 18x10.5 with fatty BFG 295's on it. I run a 265 on the front 18x9 wheel.

BTW I corrected myself above. I didnt read it clearly.

so you only have 1 wheel in the front and 1 in the rear? how does that work?

(hehehehe)

cool, i thought you might have been talking about 17x10s. like i said i just got done with a little searching of my own on whats the biggest tire you can fit on a 17x9 because i just bought some for mine. and i think you are right, i think 285 is the max you can go with, but like i said it would have to be a tire manufacture thats known for being a little small.

That is partially true reivax. Sometimes it depends what you want though.

99gtstanger what are looking for out of your tires?

If you want to fill the tire/fender gap you gotta go with a bigger tire &/or a bigger rim, plain & simple. Do your research! I learned a couple months ago when I was shopping that the tire shop guys dont actually know what they are talking about. They go off of a book or whatever thier boss told them. There is a misconception about mustangs & what size tires fit on them. Heres the answer... Nobody freakin knows!!! Its trial & error. Ive seen people go with a 315 in the rear. they may or may not have had spacers, but they made it work. Unless you have an IRS I dont think youll rub at all with whatever you put back there. When I had my 99 Cobra with IRS I went with a 285 & never rubbed, so...?
I had more than one guy at different tire places try to tell me & swear to me that I couldnt go 295 on my 04 Mach 1. As a matter of fact when I ordered my tires from the tirerack.com someone from thier customer service dept. actually called me to ask if I was sure I ordered the right size tire. Ive seen people put worse sizes on rice cars, why not go big on a mustang!? The worst thing you can do is get too small of a tire on your rim which will cause a bubble effect, not good or safe! i would recommend that you get a meaty tire for the back since we do have rear wheel drive cars. I went with a 35 profile, but I think next time I will go with a 40 profile instead. Its just more rubber.

Like I said guys it all depends what you want out of your tires.

to add to what spartacus said, keep in mind what you want the tire to do. if you want it perform at the 1/4 track, go with a summer tire with a soft sidewall. if you want it to handle better and be more responsive when turning, get a summer tire with a stiffer sidewall. if you want it for looks, get an all season tire if they make it in the size you want.

Well im trying to go wide , but not wide enough so that I will have to worry about my tires rubbing. As far as for what I want them to do , Im looking for tires that will give me good traction on the streets. Im not really concerned with the cornering thing. What tire size do you guys think would go best on some 18x10 deep dish bullitts?
