Default Minimum wheel size to fit GT500 brakes

Does anyone know what the minimum wheel dimensions have to be to fit the Shelby Gt500 brakes on a regular GT? I have the calipers, a set of drilled rotors will follow and new wheels after that.

If you mean the rotors I haven't completely decided yet, but I am leaning towards the Baer two piece rotors. I am pretty close to Speed Unlimited in Maryland, they can get them but their price typically isn't the best. So I haven't settled on where to get them from yet either.

On the Baer rotors, are the outer rings[wear section] replaceable? The center adapter looks like the expensive part. I noticed also that the GT 500 rotors have been obsoleted by several large parts warehouses.

WHAT!?!?!?! obsolete wear item on a 1 year old car? that doesnt make sense.

As for the brakes go, if you have seen the most recent issue of 5.0 magazine, there is an article about Larry Millers Motorsports park, in conjunction with Ford Racing. Anyway, i noticed on one of the GTs they use for the driving school, that it had 4 piston brembo calipers up front with the stock 18 inch fanblade wheels. I dont know for sure, but i am willing to bet that the GT500 calipers are brembo units and that they may possibly work with stock wheels. if not call brembo.

If anybody has a streight answer to this please post it or pm me. I have the 18 inch polished aluminum wheels. And my brakes need to be upgraded but I do not want to put bigger rims on.

had 18's on mine they were not close to fitting. I think some 18's will work it depends on the design of the wheel.

I want to upgrade my brakes on my 07 GTCS but won't give up my 18" polished wheels. If you guys find a source let me know. I haven't been able to find anything from brembo, baer, etc.

I might not be grasping the whole thread here but, dont GT 500's come with 18 inch wheels? Why wouldn't the brakes work with our 18 inch wheels?

The Gt 500 I saw did have 18 inch wheels. But the wheel was a different design than mine the spokes on the 500 went away from the hub so there was more width. On my car, which is a plain GT the spokes come streight down and the caliper comes very close to the wheel. Two mechanics I talked two said either change my rim design or put bigger rims on. I hope this helps I am not a mechanic. And bigger rims for me is just hard to accept. I like the old school look. I know I am all by myself on the thought but oh well.

Bremba's radial mount 6 piston caliper is very low profile. The trick would be to get someone to design and make an adapter bracket. Their installation drawing looks like it could be made to fit a 360 x 28 [mm] rotor in an 18 inch wheel. Save about 1800 bucks on avoiding 20 inch wheels. If the '08 GTCS ever gets here I'll give it a try.

Wheels are 18 inches by 9.5 inches on the GT500 you need atleast a 9.5 inch wide rim to fit the GT500 gear.
