2005 Mustang V6, What is the desired psi for the tires?
I know it listed on the side of the wheels but I have heard people say adjust the back ones lower or higher than the front and all kinds of things that say improve speed and traction. What is the desired PSI for both the front and back tires on an 05 V6?

In the GT's if you open the driver side door, there will be a sticker/decal. It includes a bar-code and some other useful information. It will tell you proper inflation PSI recommended for your car

Right now I'm following that psi as the door tells me but I've heard from people here and there if you put more or less in the front or the back tires it creates better performance and traction. I just can't remember which was which. Not to mention if I know that its true or not.

If your vehicle's tires are under inflated by only 6 psi it could lead to tire failure. Additionally, the tire's tread life could be reduced by as much as 25%. Lower inflation pressure will allow the tire to deflect (bend) more as it rolls. This will build up internal heat, increase rolling resistance and cause a reduction in fuel economy of up to 5%. You would find a significant loss of steering precision and cornering stability. While 6 psi doesn't seem excessively low, remember, it usually represents about 20% of the tire's recommended pressure.
Over-inflation
If your tires are over inflated by 6 psi, they could be damaged more easily when running over pot holes or debris in the road. Higher inflated tires cannot isolate road irregularities well causing them to ride harsher. However, higher inflation pressures usually provide an improvement in steering response and cornering stability up to a point. This is why participants who use street tires in autocrosses, track events and road races, run higher than normal inflation pressures.
Quoting my response in another Tire Pressure Thread:
If your V6 is like my V6, the door information is for the standard 16" wheels and tires, and says "35 LBS".
If your 17' wheels are like my 17" wheels, they are from the GT, and the GT says "32 LBS".
I'd say the combination of weight and tire size and construction is what determines the tire pressure, and there isn't that much difference between a Pony V6 and a GT, weight-wise, so I'd go with the GT pressures on the GT wheels and tires.
I also believe the sales department likes to have softer rides for demonstration to new-car buyers, and that consideration may lower the specified pressures by several pounds.
I believe people who frequent these groups are less interested in longevity than in performance. Up to a limit, higher pressures yield higher performance (but a rougher ride).
My anecdotal evidence, for your consideration:
My daily street pressures are 35 front and 33 rear. Compromise City. I like the quicker, crisper response in the higher front, the slightly softer, earlier release in the rear. You may have a difficult time making a discrimination at two-pound differences in heavy street tires.
When I go to the autocross track I pump 'em up to 42 front, 40 rear. No sidewall rollover, good response and lateral traction. I've run as low as 35 without ill effects, but prefer the sensations of the higher pressures.
The Pirelli PZero Nero tires have less than 4,000 miles on them, so the tread is tall, and it is rolling over by individual blocks, which get rounded off pretty good after a few runs, and become even noisier than standard. Shaving them would reduce block roll, and be faster, more controllable, but I'd have to start all the component evaluations over again, since they were standard when I began the suspension mods.
At the eighth-mile drags I ran 50 front and 33 rear. Worked OK for a car that doesn't squeal the tires on a slam-the-throttle start.
If you're serious about tire pressures, you need a good, accurate gauge, the kind with a bleed button.
Where can you buy the best most accurate tire gauges? I have a regular autozone one. My problem with it is it every time I put air in my tires the gas station gauge always has a different reading than my peronal one.

dude get a digital!! autozone, western auto, sears, walmart... Not saying these are the best but for 10 - 20 $ you get a gauge that reads exact pressures to .1 psi I run 32 psi all around. I've always heard lower psi for better traction at the track (flatter tire = more contact patch = more traction) the same reason bald tires stop quicker then new treads a few of the "dragsters" >11 second cars I have heard running as low as 19 psi in the rear

That's true with drag slicks but not with street radial tires. Under inflated radials will pull up in the center and actually reduce traction.

Have you tried your gauge when you fill your tires at the station or when you get home? the tire pressure recomendation is for cold tires, if you go home and use your gauge the tires are now warm or hot and will give a different reading.
