Default 2007 Mustang GT/CS Drag Slicks

I went to the track for the first time Thursday. What a rush! My best et was 14.44 1/4 mile. I have a C&L CAI, SCT Tuner (93 oct) Hurst short Throw and a Shift light set at 5500 (safe). I ran 32 psi in all tires.
I had a hard time getting the tires to hook up. I think alot of the "trouble" is the driver but I'll improve for sure. Any help? My stock rims are 18" I'm thinking of getting drag slicks. What are best, what size? Thanks for the help.

Sounds like your dumping the clutch and just spinning the tires like crazy. To get a good time out of street tires most of the time you need to ease out the clutch to prevent too much wheel spin or you'll spin all day. Work the clutch and accelerator to get you going instead of just reving and dumping. Its hard to explain what Im trying to say but Im sure someone can put it better. You'll definately get better times with your mods if you practice. Just keep with it.

Well, I'll let you know now that the bigger the wheels are the slower you'll be, not only cause of parasitic loss, but also worse traction (because of the short sidewalls.) So are you looking for all out drag slicks or drag RADIALS which can also be legally driven on the street? If you're getting DRs you can just swap them for your tires. But if you're getting slicks you'll probably want to get another set of rear wheels so that you don't have to tire swap whernever you go to the track.

I'd say just get your seat time in, it takes a while to master the launch, no matter what tires you use. With your mods the car should be capable of 13s easily. Practice is the cheapest mod, and it your case probably much more effective than any other. So just keep at it and get your launch dialed in. And I'm not trying to get you down or anything, you're probably a better driver than me- I have an automatic .

Also what are your 60' and trap? the 1/4 mile is only half of the story.

32 lbs is too much. Try dropping to 26 in the rears and 40 in the fronts.

the stock 18's r 8.5" wide... hard to find a DR for the size... I went with BFG 265/40s new tread pattern.. its a short sidewall... but hook much better then some 255/45s I had on. they are hard to find now as they were discontinued in March. A 275/40 would fit... I just dont recall off hand if anyone makes a DR that size.

Hi gperry
I noticed you have the shift light set @5500
I shift @ 6100-6200
You gotta shift that baby at around 6000
Set your shift light for around 5900-6000 rpm
Dont worry you should hit the rev limiter @ 6250 (stock)
I don't know what your tuner set it to.
