I;ve been told if I go with regular SN front spindals, I won't be able to use the center caps. What about the rear? Right now I have a 4 lug set up. Will any 5 lug conversion work?

I think if you use the SVO or Lincoln rotors for the 5-lug conversion you won't be able to use the center caps. SN95 spindles are the way to go. Any 5-lug axle should will fit the wheels, but the length will depend on what you want to do with the rear brakes.
So now I just need to decide on a rear brake system. I'm assuming I cna get any rear disc set up from that same year that includes the axles?

Those spindle will work great. If you are going to go disc on the rear, you will need axles, caliper mounting plates, dust shields, anti-moan braces, calipers w/ brackets, rotors, and brake lines from a '94-98. I don't remember for sure now, but I think they can be from a V6 or a GT also.

So if I want to keep the rear drum for now (just to keep it somple) all I would need is this? Do I just swap out the internals from the inside of the drum set up I currently have now?

Either of those kits should work just fine. Looks like for a little bit more money you could have the rear discs. It up to you which way you want to go, depends on how much you like working on drum brakes I guess. I forgot to mention earlier that you will have to replace your master cylinder, gut your factory proportioning valve, and install an adjustable proportioning valve if you want the rear discs. Probably be another $75 or so for that stuff. I used a master cylinder from an '85 Lincoln Towncar and Ford Racing parts for the proportioning valves for my conversion. Your '86 should have the same original setup as my car did. The '87-93 models were different I think. Its been awhile since I looked through all of this stuff. As far as the drums go, looks like all you have to do is pull off your 4-lug drums, take out the axles, install the new axles, put your new 5-lug drums on and your new wheels. Looks pretty simple really.
Alright I finally got everything. I just went ahead and ordered the rear drum kit. I want the car back on the road a soon as possible, I'll do a disc conversion during the winter. Last question...
...will I fitment issues in the rear? Is it worth going with the two different sizes or should I just get all 9" (245)? I read on here how one guy said the 10" (265) tire in the rear was rubbing against his strut.

Would it be ok with 18's to also do an Eibach 1.5" drop?

I'm not sure how well the 18x10's will fit, but surely it can be done. It does say they fit '94-04 though. It depends on how much you like the staggered look or if you want to be able to rotate your tires. I'm running 17x9 with 275/40-17 and they fit really well. I had to beat the lip up in the rear wheel well so it doesn't cut up the tires, not a big deal. The 17's made a big difference in ride quality and handling over the stock wheels. Not sure about the drop either, I kind of doubt it if you go with the 18X10's. My car sits with about 1.5-2" between the tire and fender with the original springs. Maybe somebody with 18's can give you a better answer on this.
Maybe I'll just stick with the 18'9's then. At least I'll be able to rotate! Ha.

Something else that popped into my head. I had to make some shims for the spindle to strut connection from 1/8" plate. The original spindles are 1" thick while the later spindles are only 3/4" at that location. I want to say they changed this in '87, so when you replace your struts buy for the later model. Also you will need a spacer for the ball-joint so the nut doesn't bottom out. It needs to be about 3/8" thick. I ended up having to replace my ball-joints because the cheap ones I bought wore out after about 2000 miles and installed a set of MOOG's for a '95 (same as my spindles). The primer-colored parts in the picture are the pieces I made. If you want some dimensioned drawings of the parts I can post them up here.
Awesome, thanks for all the help. That doesn't look that bad. What about the rear? Is it east to reansfer everything? I'm not too familiar with drum brakes.
