Default 1993 Mustang LX Brake Upgrade and Spare Tires?

Upgrading the Fox body car's brakes is a popular improvement. My 1993 LX has 13" Baers on the front and 12" on the rear. I use TSW 17X8s with 245/40 Yokohama ES100 tires. Now my factory spare doesn't fit. Doesn't even come close to clearing the caliper on even the rear. What do ya'll do about a spare that will actually work? Is there one or do you just carry a can of fix-a-flat, a cell phone and keep your AAA membership up to date?

90 GT vert with the same issue.

I usually carry a cell phone (with charger), fix-a-flat, a tire pump, and a tire repair kit. With this, I feel that unless I have a "real" blowout I can fix it on the side of the road.

Oh - and it never hurts to make sure you bring your bag of good luck!

the baer calipers are pretty much the same dimensions as cobra calipers. get a space saver spare from a 94-04 cobra.

Several years ago I had a car that had a stereo system that took up my Trunk so I kept a Goodie Bag with a Tire Repair Kit, Fix a Flat, and a Tire Pump. Well about 3:30 AM out in the middle of nowhere I got a Flat, it was pitch black outside and when I shined the flashlight on the tire there was a huge hole in the sidewall! I had to remove all the Stereo equipment just to get down to the Spare, it took a couple hours in the dark so no more of that crap for me! I keep the Correct 5 Lug Cobra Spare in my Stang and I refuse to have any Stereo Equipment blocking its access!

Even though it's got nice wheels & tires and Baer brakes, it's still a four lug, so the Cobra spare is not an option for me. Guess I will put together a survival kit like blade10. What kind of spare did the '93 Cobras have? Weren't they four lug 17s?

wtf still 4 lug? the 93 cobras did have 17 inch wheels but i dont think the spare was big enough to fit Cobra R specs/94+cobra specs. the R model came with a full size spare plus they were five lug, so thats out. i think you are sol as far as a space saver spare goes.

lxarlo, I expect you are right about finding a space saver that will fit. I found out the spare I was given with the car is out of a '93 Cobra. I tried it out & it won't clear the calipers even on the rear.
