Default Widest size tires on a 1990 mustang convt.

What is the widest size tire I can run on 1990 mustang convt. I'm going with a staggered set-up so the back tires will be wider than the front. 17 by 9's in the back and 17 by 8's in the front. What do you guys think is the best tire combo?

A 275 is about the limit without making modifications. It's advised to keep it around a 245 in the front because it could get tire rub when turning hard.

I'm running 245/40/17s on 17X8s all around. It's OK in the rear, but I do get tire rub in the front. Car is lowered 1.5" so that's likely the reason.

If you want wider rubber in the rear go with 245/45/17s up front and 275/40/17s out back, its a great combo for a Fox.

i've read on here that flipping the quad shock around can give you more clearence.

Or just take your quads off. If you've got some good upper/lower control arms you don't need them.

Removing the Quad Shocks is not a good idea, flipping them for extra clearance is.

I have 245's all around. They rub a bit in front and don't have enough traction in back. I think I'll go with 235's up front and 255's in the rear pretty soon.

Why not, if you have a decent rear control arm set-up then they aren't required. I've been running without them for over 3 years now wit ha car I drag race, corner carve, drive on the freeways, around town, its never had a problem.

You answered your own question! You said that "You" have not had problems without them, but Fox Stangs were built to such Liberal Tolerances that no 2 are the same, so just because you got away with it does not mean it is an across the board thing for everybody.

I have also removed the quad shocks I put on ( not factory, but i installed them) when I run the 275's and I also have no problems. I have CHE upper and lower control arms
