Question Help Getting Right Tires For Rims!!

i have a 2000 Mustang. My friend gave me some wheels but the tires that came with them are too big for the wheel wells on my car. The rims are 18x9 Mach 1 Replicas. the tires were 255/55-18. the guy at the tire shop said maybe 245/45 would fit. but he wanted me to buy the tires from him and then try them. before i go and spend money on tires that won't fit, anyone know what would probably fit the best for my car/wheel size combination? thank you in advance

Hiya, I see this is your first post. Welcome to the site.
On a 9 inch wide wheel, you can get as narrow as a 225 up to a 275 if you get the appropriate tire height. For a 2000, you could get some 275/50 and they should fit.
