Your question was what size can you get on the wheel, not what size is the max that will fit properly. Yes, you can squeeze a big tire on a small rim. What happens is the sidewalls are pinched in. This causes the center of the tread to bulge outward resulting in your wearing your tires out in the center. There are many websites that have min and max rim widths for tire sizes. Do a bit of research and then make your own decision.

I did not think it was possible to get 275-50 on a stock rim. It took two of use the get 245 onto my ponys. But equipment isnt the greatest anymore.

I'm replacing BFG Comp TA 245-50-15 rears and 225-50-15 fronts. They performed great. I remember watching them put the 245s on the turbines, it took a couple of tries. I wouldn't think that you could go bigger. I didn't think that they made anything similar anymore so I'm looking for new wheels.
