Default 1989 Mustang front tires rub. how do i fix it?

i have an 89 mustang with stock springs and 17 in rims i have 235/45/17s on there but i want taller profile tires without them rubbing. i just want them in the back the front are already rubbing. in the rear im planning on reversing the quad shocks. what size will fit? and can i fix the front end from rubbbing by cutting a piece of the plastic wheel well? thanks in advance

As for the back, it all depends on the wheel's offset (assuming you are using aftermarket wheels) too. Over-tall wheels may regard reardless of width or offset - you may have to add taller springs (just curious - why do you want tall tires on the rear?).

As for the front, check for wear patterns to find out where they are currently rubbing. If it's just on the fender liner, sure, your can trim out to solve this. If its on the ball joints or steering rack or other suspension components, you should add spacers (be careful with spacers - if they are too thick, you lose grip on the stud with the nut, and it can cause problems).

If you do have to go with spacers more than 1/8", look for the ones that include longer studs and matching nuts.

their american racing rims i think their 17 by 10 in. i just want it to look more classic hot rodder type and with bigger tires in the rear by lowering the pressure theres a bigger contact point with the ground for when and if i go to the track to get more traction. and i also dont like the rims i have they came with the car. their just too big they dont look right. i want probably some weld racing 15s. i just like how they look on the car better i dont like the big rims with the low profile tires. if you can think of any other combos let me know. i just dont have the money right now for rims too and the tires on there are complete slicks. im planning on getting som bfgoodrich g-force kdw all seasons. i thought they were good for the price which is 124 a piece but if you can recommend anything it would help.
i called americas tire and they told me 245/45/17s would fit
ok im pritty sure it is on the fender liner i didnt know if that would mess with anything else. thanks

Default Rear grip

If you can, consider finding a cheap pair of wheels and drag radials or better yet slicks for the rear. Just put them on when you are at the track (or going there if you get drag radials). Watch ebay - there are usually deals on there that will work for you. 15" wheels are the most common with slicks, while drag radials can be lots of sizes, 15-17". The smaller the wheel, the taller the tire you can run. I'm not sure what car you have (or what the OE wheel size was), but if you have an older stang, it probably came with 15" wheels originally, 16" for newer 5.0's.

Dropping the pressure too far will just get you a tire spun clean off the wheel, so be careful with that. Those wrinkle walls that we see the pros use don't use much air - but they often use screw-on arrangements to keep them seated, too. Run at least 24 pounds of air in there until you have a good idea of what is happening to the tire (mark the tire/rim with some chalk to see if you are getting the tire to spin on the wheel, which is a problem you need to watch.

Track action is tough on rear wheels AND tires. The used route on ebay is a good way to start without spending a ton. After you wear out those tires in a single session, you'll be glad you went this route.

its an 89 gt. and the stock size was 15. i already got the bfgoodrich gforce ta kdw tires for 318 for 2 installed.
ya i know the pros use beadlocks and the sidewalls of those tires are almost paper thin. and i know what your talking about ive seen a couple people think they can run their tires with like 5 psi in it then try to launch and blew both tires of the rims. i wasnt going to go that far and with the new tires i dont really need to until i go to a track.

im not too worried about it now the tires that i got grip really good or at least a lot better than the slicks i had on there. before i was launching at 2500 rpm and still spinning the tires. the other day on the way back from getting them installed i was just messin around and launched at 4000 with no spin at all. so im a lot happier with these.

i didnt think about getting the wheels from ebay before thats a good idea. withen a couple months ill probably do that.
