I think I'm going to do a little drag racing next year and would like a wheel/tire combo that will work with my power. I'm thinking about purchasing a 17 inch stocker rim, But I'm not sure about what tire to put on it.
There was a thread on this sometime in the last 30 days with the info. Don't remember the tires but I think some folks were using the 16" stock wheels because they're lighter.

I use 17's and I would definiltey use the MT drag radials. I bought a set of 99 Cobra rims with nitto drag radials and couldn't pass up the price. I tried using those nittos and i've always put down their drag radials and i remember why now. they suck. MT's all the way.

You are going to need a 16" wheel and some MT 27x10.5x15 BIAS PLY drag tires at a minimum. The reason for the 16" wheels is not because they are lighter (of course that helps) but because they allow for more sidewall which gives a better wrinkle wall action you are going to need with that much HP. The bias ply are closer to a true drag tire than the radials and will give much better performance once the HP levels get to where you are. You may be able to use the 28" version, you have enough power, that will give even more traction as the sidewall is even taller.
I got a cheap set of 4.0 V6 replica wheels and they work great. I could rev my supercharged engine to 6000 RPM and completely dump the clutch and that wheel/tire combo will not even chirp.

you got a typo there??? 16" wheel and 15" tire.... don't think that'll work out well....
Cool, I found a pair of v6 4.0 rims, they still have the stock tires with about 300 miles. Is 160 shipped a good deal? Can I take the et streets to any tire shop to have them mounted?

I use these, they are the 4th one down (Mickey Thompson ET Street Drag Tire
27'' x 10.5'' - 16''LT), and yes, I meant 16" tires. These things rock. I just take them to the nearest tire place to have them put them on the wheels but you have to make sure they know how to install tubes in tires.
