Question about drag radials? 2004 Mustang Mach 1 & 1988 Mustang GT I have a 2004 Mach 1 and an 88 GT mustang. I want to start getting into drag racing a little more than I have been. Im a rookie at it to say the least. Ive been to the track twice to be exact.
I want to have a set of drag wheels, specifically set up for both cars. Tell me what you think...
Im planning to buy a set of 17x10.5 Mach 1 rims to run in the rear with the set of 17x8 stock wheels I have from my Mach 1. I dont want to do a slick because i know Im not ready for that caliber yet. Right now its just for fun, but I want to get a little more serious about it, so... Im thinking just a drag radial. I like BFGoodrich, but alot of people dont like the BFG drag radial, so I started looking at the Mickey Thompson drag tires. He makes a few, Im just not sure which ones to get and what size really. I was talking to a buddy who is a little more familiar with drag racing and he said dont get the ET streets, some other people said the same thing. But size is an issue as well, see I want the set of wheels to be interchangeable with my 88 GT. This might take some modding for the GT, but not alot. My buddy recommended going wihth a MT drag radial that was a 275/40/17, this should fit on my 17x10.5 wheel and also be big enough for the Mach. I was concerned about it being to small. I run a 295/35/18 daily driver, so I thought drag radials were supposed to be big also, like a 315 or something. Now obviously the 315 and even the 295 are too big for the 88 fox, but 275!? Really!? He said a big tire can hurt you sometimes.
What do you guys think???
