Default wheel size up grade for 1989 Mustang 5.0 upgrade?

I have been looking to up grade or put larger than stock wheels on my 89 5.0. I have been told many different combos, and all are different. what will work on this car, and can I put 17 inch rims on and I don`t want them to rub, also what tire sizes will work. help!

17's are fine for an 89, and on the front you'll want to keep the tires to a 235, any more and it'll be rubbing. On the rear keep it to a 275 at the max, and the wheel size to an 8 1/2 wide on the rear, 8 in the front.

This is what I'm looking at:
eBay Motors: AFS 79-93 Mustang Wheels Tires Cobra R 4-lug Silver 2+2 (item 230205838894 end time Dec-24-07 21:59:44 PST)

I'm a little worried about the front tires rubbing though and I don't feel a great need for 255s up front. I heard you'd have to flip the quads for these on the rear. If you go to 275s I think you'd have to roll the fenders.

Sorry bud, I just remembered about this. If it's a decision about an 8 or a 9, go with the 9. And you can reverse the quads, not take them off permanently but take them off and put them back on in reverse. This will put the large part of the shock body outside the wheel, not where the tire would contact it, but yet still keep the quads. Doing this will give you nearly another inch of clearance between the quad and the tire.

Tire sizes should be in the front a 235/45 and the rear a 275/40 at the largest. A 275 tire will fit on 9 to 11 inch wide wheels, and the 235 will fit 7 1/2 to 9 inch wide wheels.
