Default Powder coating rims. Advice needed.

I have chrome American Racing Torq Thrust II on my 65 fastback. I am thinking about powder coating them to a darker gun metal gray. Anyone have any experience with this? Any advice on techniques, costs, colors, coatings, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Also, what are your thoughts...see pics.

Powder coating is relatively inexpensive. I had my Valve Covers coated. It cost $175.00 and that was a two part process with a special mix. What they would charge for four wheels, I'm not sure. But if you're going with a single coat product, and there's minimal taping involved it shouldn't be too expensive. If your wheels are currently powdercoated, they'll have to be stripped first. The place doing the powdercoating can usually do that.
Almost any color and texture is available. I have some photos in my gallery of the valve covers with a metalic flake. They'll give you a stack of "paint chips" just as if you walked into a paint store. They can also do a partial coating; like doing the spokes in a color while leaving the rim chrome. That would look sharp.

OK, so I've added a few things to it. Check my Profile - too many to list here.

You might talk with the powdercoater about how well the powdercoat will stick to the chrome. That surface might have to be treated or somehow altered.

Thanks myltlpony. I took a look at your valve covers...those are really sharp. I guess I'll have to take those in as well!

Powder coating is a nice way to go as long as you know what you want and what can be expected as a result. I do it the hard way, myself. That way I can't complain, too much.
