Default 275/40 zr17 tires on 2000 mustang GT?

Hi All

I just put 98 style cobra rims 17X9 on my 2000 GT. The 235/45 tires the folks at discount tire recomended don't look right, so I'm changing them. My options seem to be:

245/45 ZR's or 275/40 ZR's. I'd like the same size all around for purposes of rotation and maintenence. I am concerned that the 275/45's might stick out beyond the wheel wells...

Does anyone here run 275/40's? If so what is your experience with this set up? Advice?

If you have pictures I can look at it would be a great help.

Thanks!

Matt

Default 295

I run 295's on the rear of mine, no problems. Pics on my profile.

I know others who run 305's and 315's (though with these, depending on the wheel, you get rubbing on the quad shocks and have to reverse the shocks).

Default Same Size

IF you prefer to run all 4 the same size (enables you to do full tire rotations) 275 is the biggest I would suggest, and you might consider 265's (depending on the tire you choose).

The physical width of a tire depends on more than just the official "width". I have measured tires that have the same official width, but where the sidewall is more oval (yielding a wider contact patch AND less clearance because the physical size of the tire is larger).

Tires with sharp edges and vertical designs will tend to fit "smaller" than tires with wide oval designs (Firestone Firehawks or Nittos, for iinstance). My 275's rub slightly on the front for this reason.

Thanks everyone,

I'll probably be ordering a set of goodyear eagle F1 allseasons, - really pricey, but I can't shake the feeling that sooner or later I'll be caught out in the snow. I avoid it in the Mustang, but I've been caught in freak snows or ice in the mountians here in july.

The F1's have a really stiff sidewall - #3 overall in the tirerack ratings (1 and 2 aren't even made in the sizes I'm looking at) and every rating on them is 5 star - plus, they look mean as hell
