Default What tires for street driven 500 hp Mustang?

I just put a set of Nitto 450s 275 50 17 on the back and now it is like driving on ice.
They only want to spin!
It might be the cold weather or just too much HP!
What tires do you recommend?

Dude, i have the same problem. I have Nitto 555 drag radials (275 40 17)and they just don't hook. I don't do burn-outs to heat them but i figured with the soft compound (tread wear rating of 100) they would be sufficiant. Not the case. I just bought Nitto NT01 315 35 17) because i wanted a wider tire and i'm hoping the wider tire will hook a little better. The compound and tread wear are probably the same though. The car is low and stiff which doesn't help any. The car is 575RWHP and I just really don't want to set it up like a drag car. Good luck. If you find something please post it and I'll do the same.

U should´ve bought DragRadials.

HPMcGee maybe having 575rwhp and 4.10 gears might have something to do with your traction problems. to much gear for that much HP imo.

This tire should do both of you good.

Mickey 3744R Mickey Thompson ET Street® Radial (315/35R17) - 3744R Mickey Thompson

I have seen it on cars running 10's and it hooks. Now also on the street you have to take in account that there are oils and other types of fluid on the streets. So unless you are putting down VHT your going to spin your tires no matter what. This though will make the best difference in how your car runs.

Also you might want to think about adjustable lower control arms and adjustable upper control arms.

It should a 315 fits a 10 so i would figure it should fit fine.. If not just get a 295 that should fit fine.

I'm putting down 546HP with my 67 Mustang Fastback. It has 225/55/R14's all the way around. I had to nurse the car to keep the tires from breaking loose. Around 90 MPH I can romp on without breaking them loose in 3rd. Having 2.70 gears helps to manage the power to the ground.

Yes, MT Drag Radials work well...at the track and during the summer!

I have three sets of them..Two mounted on 17x9 inch Bullets and one on a set of 15 inch Borgarts.

I am looking for a good street tire for everyday use.

I also have 4.10s and custom ~3700 stall converter.
I can spin the Nittos from 60-100 mph on dry pavement.
My stock tires were better than the Nittos.

Anybody out there have any luck with a regular street tire?
Goodyear, BFgoodrich, Firestone, Hankook, or something else?

I only bought the Nittos because the Pirellis in 275 40 17s were on National backorder until late January.

Nope when it comes to street tires i would just buy the cheapest ones just. Either falken tires or sumitomo those are what I would put on in the winter just because they are rated decently and i dont drive like a bat out of hell when i have them on so i can care less if the hook or not.

I think I'll try some BFgoorrich G-force KD for my next tire.
I'm not putting down near the power you'll are but i can still break them loose really easy.

MexGT, we ARE talking about drag radials. And which is the best for hook up. As for having too much gear, you might be right, but it doesn't hook at any speed. A hot tire on a stcky track is a different story. The reason for the 4:10 is because the engine will rev to well over 8000rpm and I don't need to do 200mph. The mickey's were actually my first choice but they were on a 5 week back order and I got impatient. I think the NT01 will be ok in the summer.
