This car was built in late October '07 and have heard that a head change happened about then, but can't find out what the change was or when it started. The 5.4s started in September and since they use the same head?? Anybody know what the head mod was, bigger hole??
Anyway only found a light loose brown soot on the tip diameter, electrode area was sqeaky clean. Engine has about 18K miles. Put the same plugs back in, still in warranty and I don' want Ford all huffy and full of excuses.
The brown stuff is Methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl (MMT). It's just an octane additive.

I run a couple tanks full of Seafoam and soaked the plugs with Seafoam and they came right out. I took them out, clean off what little carbon was on them, put some Anti-seize on the threads and put them back in until I can afford the one-piece plugs. No Problems. I found that using a longer breaker bar makes the job alot easier. You can use force smoother and easier.

Autozone carries seafoam. It's with the fuel additives.

FYI, there's a TSB out on spark plug removal for the GTs built before Nov. 30 2007. Brenspeed has it posted up under their Tech section. Apparently there's an issue with the plugs breaking off. The TSB has some very specific instructions on how to avoid this.
