Spark plugs had to be replaced already

I had to replace the plugs at 19k miles. I guess it got the plugs too hot. Has anyone had to do this. My car ran like junk. I did't know what the hell happened to it. The cats blew out the back. I don't think that was good.

Your factory cats blew out? I would say turn the boost down, but I guess it doesn't matter at this point.

Can't help with the plugs though. Sorry.

What did the plugs look like when you pulled them? I had some cats do that to me on my FI 01 cobra. It got too lean, the cats turned RED.

i suggest getting rid of the factory plugs in these cars ASAP, the motorcrap plugs break WAY too easy........my local speed shop has plugs that are a 1 piece design and wont break off like others........i dont remember what they where called, but the name started with a D (not denso)........the plugs will get siezed up in the heads, not a good thing........if its original plugs, get them replaced!

If memory servers me right the only time a cat will get read is when the motor is running rich. its trying to burn off the excess fuel in the exhaust pipes. But by all means change them. Brisk is making normal style plugs for the 3V and I read where Champon is suppose to also.

+1... If the cats are getting that hot, the tune is dumping raw gas and the substrate is overheating. I would suspect the rich condition has also led to the demise of your plugs. Are you running HT0s or HT1s?

stock plugs. they had a brown coating i'm guessing fuel additives. they looked like used plugs a little black on the electrode.

Did you have a hard time getting them out?

The brown coating is Methycyclopentadienyl Maganese Tricarbonyl (MMT). MMT is an anti-knock additive. You probably should consider going with either an Autolite HT1 or HT0 (if you need a colder plug)..

I'd be very careful running it until you diagnose the cats. If the substrate is melted and they are partially blocked, you risk blowing your engine.

I just checked Champion Plugs and they are making a plug for our cars 7989 part number. Double platinum and 18.99 each.
Brisk makes a standard type of plug for our cars.
Any one using them yet????
