Does your engine ever knock ??

I have a 2007 and every once in awhile my engine knocks.
Has this ever happened to you. I use 87 octane but the manual says that is normal. To me that doesn't seem right.

It usually does it during take off. I live in Ca, we dont get 93 octane out here the highest we get is 91. They read this link the manual says that its OK if the engine knocks lightly. I always have been told that knocking is not a good thing at all.

It's not normal and it can be destructive to your engine. Ford did design the modular engines for 87 octane but its the things we do and the environment (ie hot days) that may require a higher octane. The knock is the fuel combusting prior to spark due to increased pressure in the cylinder. This can wreak havoc on the internals. Higher octane fuel is more resistant to preignition.

Wait 'til some of the other guys chime in, they will be able give you more specifics.

You could of also just got into some bad gas:hihi:

Yea once I started hearing the knocking I went to my usual gas station and started using 91 octane and the noise did go away.

I did end up going to another gas station just for the hell of it and started using 87 octane. The noise went away. So your right I must have got bad gas.

But the manual i found on line said that the knocking noise can be a normal thing..

Try a can of seafoam or Techron in the tank. You may have some carbon buildup on the valves.

Funny, because Techron makes most high performance engine knock. It cleans though. He might want to check his spark plugs too.

Sunoco and Shell are good gas stations. Shell has something in it called V-Power or soemthing. i over-heard a few guys at a car show talking about it.

You're right, it isn't right for the engine to do that. Sounds like it's running lean. My car has never done that.

I've found alot depends on where you live.

In NY, I NEVER had issues.

Here in Washington State... the gas is awful.

I'm assuming you have a 100% stock motor. I would do as others suggested. Use the 91 octane every time. That should take care of it. It may take a couple tank fulls to get all the 87 out. As STL mentioned. Seafoam will help clean the injectors and internals of any build up. This combination should solve your problems.
I had a knock issue with a canned tune. Had it dyno tuned and it was gone. Good luck!
