Disconnect the battery for about 15 minutes and try reloading the stock tune again.

If he has a CAI it needs to have a specific tune for it. You can't use the generic one on the tuner.

one theory: your friend went to the dealer and the dealer retuned his vehicle. the pcm strategy is now different, you need to use a tune with his pcm strategy..if the tuning device is not programmed to the same strategy as the vehicle it wont recognize it. i dont have my x3 in front of me but im pretty sure there is a way to read the strategy code with it. then have your tuner redo your tunes using the new code and you should be fine.

hope that helps

Did you buy the tuner new?
Did you give the tuner the code from your pcm?

What you need to do is keep trying to return it to stock. Make sure that the key is turned all the way to accessory... as far as it will go without the vehicle cranking. After about 5 or 6 tries, it should finally go back to stock. This happened on older firmware versions of the 3000's and 3015's. I haven't seen it in a few month's though, so that 3015 must have been sitting in inventory somewhere for a little while.

Once you get it to successfully go back to stock, go to SCT's website and get the "SCT Device Upater Software" under Tech Support > Device Updates and Downloads > Select 3015 PN from Dropdown Menu and "Device Update Software".

Then go back and download the newest Firmware and Tune Revisions for the device the same way you downloaded the Updater Software. Use the Updater software to update the Firmware and Tune Revision and reprogram the vehicle. Should start and run.

Or you can bypass all of that and order a custom tune from us that you can load right into the device you have and it'll run great. Plus the canned tunes from SCT usually run so lean we have to shut them down mid-pull on the dyno.

Tunes are $84.99 for a single tune, and cheaper for a two or three pack. You can find them on our webstore below:

SCT Flash Tillman Speed E-Mail Order Custom Tunes - Single File

The tuner probably didn't take any PCM code because the 3015 is a preloaded device that covers all Ford vehicles with SCT preloaded tunes. They aren't "custom tailored" so to speak.

We will need the PCM code which is located between the passenger side valve cover and passenger side headlight under the hood. Here's more info, and a picture:

We offer many different tune files for different octanes as well as driving styles, here is a link explaining them all:

Were you able to get it to go back to stock? If it says unmarried, that is a good sign.

Tell him to call SCT at 407-774-2447 and hit the option for tech support. Have them go through and verify the car is in stock form, and why it will not start. Get them just to get the car back to stock, starting form, with the programmer unlocked, unmarried, stock.

From there, call me and I'll get him squared away.
