Hey ladies and gents.
In a week or so I'm going to be visiting the broseph and helping him reinstall his recently fixed axle on his 69 Ranger.
In the meantime, I thought it would be cool to do a short-throw shifter on my stang with him.
My brother and I never agreed on much and now that he suddenly got into cars (something I've been doing the better half of my
life) has been a great bonding experience.
So I'm thinking of picking up the Ford Racing Short Throw Shifter. I believe it's made by Hurst. Ford Racing Performance Parts - [Part Details]
I'm well aware of the price. As steep as it is, but I'd prefer the nice fitting boot, considering my boot is different from the stock already with me 401a spec interior upgrade. I also like the nostalgic look of the Hurst and the crisp, thin, long shifter arm attached to that beautiful cue-ball top.
I'm also aware of the rattling that is involved with the hurst shifters, and I plan on using red-locktite, some Dynamat, and White Lithium grease in the shifterball, as I have read fixes most issues regarding rattling with the Hurst.
I was wondering though, if it was necessary to purchase a rebuild kit from Ford Ford Racing Performance Parts - [Part Details]
, or if there is a cheaper kit that worked accordingly.
And lastly, does anyone have any pointers, if they've done this install before? Also I'm trying to find a manual so I can coach myself a bit before I throw my brother in the mix with me as we attempt to install this on my steed.
I really appreciate the help everyone!
