255/40/18's on stock 18x8.5's?

So ok, i'm getting shoes for the pony in the next few weeks and was thinking about getting 255's instead of the factory 235's. I've read that 255's will fit an 8"-9" rim but i've also read that they won't fit. So my question is does anyone here actually have 255's on their stock 18's and could you take some pics of them for those of us who are considering the change to these slightly wider tires?

IMO, a 255/40/18 will certainly fit on your stock Ford 8.5 inch wheel. Advertised/suggested rim size is minimum 8.5" or range ........8.5"-(9.0")-10.0"

Look at the manufacturer's website. You can find all the information you need about acceptable rims size/tire size.

I have seen and driven one with this size tire. It works perfect and will not change the speedometer by 1 or 2 mph. I have seen 285-40's on the rear factory 18's.

You should be fine, I have those on my 9.5" wide wheels and I'm sure I could put 275's on mine with no problem.

They'll fit fine. I have 18/255/45 555's on my 8.5" bullits. I also have a set of 18/265/40 MT ET Streets mounted on the same rim. They are all a tad more than what is recommended but the performance loss is almost negligible.

If they play, I spray.

This is an image of the stock Pirelli 235/55-17, 255/45-18 and 285/40-18

You can see they're the same height. The 255 is on the left, 235 in the middle and 285 to right.

This is a link to some more photos of the 18's

+1 on that! I have had 275/40 on rear stock 17" Bullet wheels for about 2 years. It is about time to replace them due to wear, but they definitely fit and look really good from behind
