SCT X3 Fan Speed Adjust(and other stuff)?

On the x3 under options it allows you to change the temperature as to when the fan (high or low) will activate. Is there any reason other than power consumption you would want the fan to turn on at say, 210 degrees instead of 180? Wouldnt turning it on at a lower temp decrease overall engine temp? Sorry if this post seems moronic, I'm just real interested in this tuning concept. I'd actually like this thread to cover what anyone wants to share about tuners and tuning.

2007 Mustang Gt Premium Edition. De-striped. Stock wheels and tires changed out for DRAG DR-24 18x8 wheels/Nitto 555 tires. Steeda CAI 85mm, FordRacing 4.10 gears, Magnaflow 'MagnaPack' Catback, Steeda Underdrive pulleys and Bamachips tune. More to follow...

You'd want to change the fan if you put in a different thermostat.

Ford notoriously installs Stat's from the factory that don't fully open til over 200 and set the High Speed Fan Temps even higher.. If you have a handheld with the capability to adjust them I highly recommend it! Here's where mine are set with a Predator..
High speed on 193
High speed off 189
Low speed on 189
Low speed off 186

Keep in mind that these engines are designed to run better at higher temps. That's why it's not a good idea to put in a lower temp T-stat. I had all kinds of fueling issues when I put a 160* in mine. Went back to an OEM.

Yeah a 160 Stat is too cold and the design isn't the right one for a Modular motor which probably contributed to your problems...
I use the Stant 14138 180 degree and the Best ones available are from my friend Joel, his Custom made 170's are Amazing!
to the member below my first post... 180 is too low for the low speed on setting, it will constantly run change it to about 187

Your OK with the stock Stat in Maryland stlwagon but guys in the Deep south should look into Joel's 170, this alone with lower fan settings have helped countless Terminator owners avoid going to a bigger more $$$ radiator, here's a link describing his product and a discussion of Joel's vast knowledge of the Mustang Cooling systems!
FYI this works wonderfully on the 05-06 3V motor too
