Installing 4.10 gears this weekend

I have the gears and the install kit from american muscle... I am pretty handy installing items on my car and am planning on doing this myself this weekend with alittle help from a friend. I would like to know what other tools I will need (specialty?) and what to really expect while im changing them. Thanks guys!

someone needs to know how to "set the lash", this takes special instrumentation and is not for the novice mechanic or you WILL have problems

3 jaw bearing puller to get the pinion out.
Shop press to install the bearing on the pinion.
Punch or drift to remove the pinion bearing race.
Micrometer for measuring shim thickness.
Dial gauge and magnetic mount for setting backlash.
There is also a pin that holds the differential together. Mine broke while removing. I didn't realize there was a new one in the install kit until after I chased all over town looking for a new one. I'd use a new one.
Black RTV gasket maker for reinstalling the diff cover.
Torque wrench clicker style.
Torque wrench beam style. Must read inch pounds in the 1-50 range. This is used for setting pinion bearing preload.

Good luck with your project! I never did one before and it took me two full weekends and a few nights during the week to do it right. It's definetly not something I recommend you breeze through. Quite a task, but I learned a lot along the way.

Turrbo,

Check out the installation guides on our product pages. The Ford Racing Gears have both a manufacture install guide and one of our loyal customer submitted guides! I've found they're extremely helpful and walk you through each step with each tool you'll need.
