Frustrated -- can't get Fog Lamp out of housing.

On Monday, a driver pulled up next to me at a light and told me one of my fog lamps was out. Needless to say, I was embarassed, but thanked him for telling me.

This car is 3 years old. I bought it 5 months ago -- and it ALREADY has a burned out fog lamp? REALLY? Sigh...

So, I do the research on the internet, and figure out how to replace this darned thing. I tear into it in my garage this morning, and ended up giving up without success. I'm really frustrated, and hope you can help.

I did all the work, and couldn't get the bulb "counter clockwise" out of the housing. Every set of instructions I read on the internet said to turn the bulb "counter clockwise" to release it. I actually put a screwdriver on it and tapped it with a hammer, and it still did not come out. What does "counter clockwise" mean anyway, when you're looking DOWN on it? I ended up having to put it all back together, and am considering taking it to the local dealership for them to fix the fog lamp bulb.

What did I do wrong?

FRUSTRATED in Tulsa...

Never mind -- I figured it out. I waited about an hour and then went out and took the entire thing apart again. This time I went an extra step and took the entire grille off the car. THEN, the bulbs came out easily.

The trick was this -- there was a piece of metal that was interfering with the bulb turning the correct direction. So, the grille HAD to come completely off the car for the bulb to clear the metal piece.

I just couldn't SEE that from the angle I was at previously. I guess that interference fit (and resulting aggrivation) comes with the Eleanor style grille... (I would not have had this clearance problem with the "normal" grille with the fog lights near the headlights.)

So, the fog lights work again -- done deal.
