2009 GT parking brake won't stay up
First, let's get all the viagra jokes out of our systems so we can get down to business..haha!
So since I got my mustang back in 2009 the ebrake has been a bit picky. If you didn't pull it up hard, after a few seconds it would slip back down to where it rests when it is off. This would mean even if you pulled the ebrake up half way, and it held the car, a few seconds later....BANG! and it would snap down to being basically disengaged. I found that if i really pulled it up hard, it would stay engaged. So let's fast forward to today...I tightened the ebrake today because it had a bit of slack in it. And now, the ebrake just won't stay up, not matter where it is, 3 clicks up, half way, or all the way. It will feel like it is catching but as you start to take your hand off the brake, it will snap back down just like before. Now, I always leave the car in gear when i park it, but if I have to park on a steep hill, I don't want to only rely on the engine to hold it there.
Anyone else encounter this issue? Any suggestions?
Also, I looked at the teeth that the brake notches into as it is engaged... they are smeared with some kind of grease. I tried to wipe some of it off since I figured it would only help the brake slip down, not stay up.
